About the hub
A practical runs once a week and lasts three hours. Most of what goes wrong in it goes wrong in the same four or five places, every year, with every cohort. These recordings cover those places.
What gets filmed
Not whole practicals. We film the moment a technique either works or fails — the drop before and after an endpoint, the decolourisation step, the difference between a two-wire and a four-wire reading. Anything a script can describe adequately stays in the script.
Recordings are made at the bench during ordinary sessions, by the demonstrator running that session. Nothing is staged for the camera, which is why the apparatus sometimes looks its age.
Who it is for
Mainly first and second-year students preparing for a session, and demonstrators who want a consistent reference to point at. Open access, no account needed, nothing tracked — the site is a set of static files and has no analytics of any kind.
How playback works
Video is delivered over HLS: each recording is cut into eight-second segments that the player fetches as it goes, rather than downloading the whole file. The quality list under the player is read from the stream itself, so a second rendition will appear there automatically when we add one.
The index currently holds short excerpts. Full recordings go up once the department that made them has reviewed the footage, which is also when the figure on the card gets replaced with a frame from the recording itself.
